What Is LG Flash Tool?
LG Flash Tool is the official firmware flashing utility developed for LG Android smartphones and tablets. It allows you to flash stock KDZ and TOT firmware files directly onto your LG device using a Windows PC. Whether you need to unbrick a non-booting device, downgrade to a previous firmware version, restore factory software after a failed root, or install a clean stock ROM, LG Flash Tool is the go-to solution for LG device owners and developers worldwide.
The tool has been the standard flashing solution for LG devices since 2013 and remains the most reliable way to manage LG firmware. Unlike third-party utilities, LG Flash Tool is designed specifically for LG's KDZ firmware format, ensuring compatibility and reliability across the full range of LG Android hardware.
For newer LG models (G6, V30, and beyond), LG released a companion tool called LGUP Tool, which handles TOT firmware files. Both tools are available free from this site and are fully supported on Windows 10 and Windows 11.

Compatible with Every LG Smartphone
The latest application has been upgraded with a modified version of UptestEX 1.2.3.1. This makes all LG smart devices compatible with this tool as never before. It is able to flash every single LG device model without any compatibility issues.
Redesigned Graphical Interface
The newest tool version ships with a fully simplified graphical user interface. The redesigned GUI makes working with the tool straightforward even for first-time users. The interface has been streamlined to reduce the number of steps required to start a flash operation.
Works Without LG Support Tool
LG Flash Tool can work directly on any Windows platform without requiring any companion support tool such as the LG PC Suite. It is a self-contained application that performs all operations independently. If you already have LG PC Suite or any third-party LG support application installed, it does not interfere with LG Flash Tool.
No Host File Bypass Required
With this updated release of LG Flash Tool, there is no bypass required during the flashing process. The tool does not need an external HTTP server or related host files to complete any step. This simplifies the setup process significantly and reduces the chances of errors during flashing.

Requirements Before You Flash
- A Windows computer (Windows 7, 8, 10, or 11) to run the application.
- LG USB drivers installed on your PC before connecting the device.
- The correct KDZ firmware file for your exact LG device model and region.
- The Megalock.dll file placed in the LG Flash Tool installation directory (for some versions).
- A working USB data cable compatible with your LG smartphone.
- At least 70% battery charge on your LG device before starting.
Important: Copy the downloaded KDZ file into the extracted folder of the tool before starting, or save it in an easily accessible location such as the desktop. The tool needs to locate the firmware file to begin the flash process.
How to Flash LG KDZ Firmware
Follow these steps to flash stock KDZ firmware onto your LG device using LG Flash Tool. If you run into any issues, visit our troubleshooting guide for common fixes.
- Download and install the latest version of LG USB driver software on your PC. Without drivers installed, the tool will not detect your device.
- Download LG Flash Tool from our download page and extract the zip file. Run the installer as Administrator.
- Power off your LG smartphone and boot it into download mode by holding the relevant button combination for your model (typically Volume Down + Power, or Power + Volume Up).
- Connect the download-mode device to your PC using a compatible USB data cable. Wait for Windows to recognize the device.
- Open LG Flash Tool. Click the "Select KDZ File" area and navigate to your downloaded KDZ firmware file.
- Click the Start button and fill in any required details on the next screen. Choose "Normal Flash" to replace firmware while keeping data, or "CSE Flash" to wipe the device and restore only boot files.
- Wait for the flashing process to complete. Do not disconnect the device or close the tool during this time. The process may take 10–20 minutes depending on firmware size.
- Once completed, LG Flash Tool will notify you that the process has finished. Your device will restart automatically with the new firmware installed.
LGUP Tool — For Newer LG Devices (2017+)
LGUP Tool is LG's updated firmware flashing utility that handles TOT firmware files for newer LG devices. If you own an LG G6, V30, V35, G7, or any model released in 2017 or later, LGUP is the correct tool to use alongside — or instead of — the standard LG Flash Tool.
LGUP is combined with the same ultra-versatility for installing firmware on all OEM LG devices. It integrates flash support for LG stock firmware in KDZ, TOT, or BIN formats. Back up all personal files before using either flash tool, as some flash modes will erase your data.
To use LGUP with a TOT or KDZ firmware: power off the device and boot into download mode, open LGUP on your PC, set the tool to use "Board DL" mode and load the TOT or KDZ firmware file, then start flashing with the Board DL option.
Compatible LG Devices
LG Flash Tool supports the full range of LG Android smartphones and tablets, including devices with the following chipsets:
| Chipset / Platform | Firmware Format | Recommended Tool |
| Qualcomm Snapdragon (2013–2016) | KDZ | LG Flash Tool |
| Qualcomm Snapdragon (2017+) | TOT / KDZ | LGUP Tool |
| MediaTek (IM, BIN) | KDZ / BIN | LG Flash Tool |
| CDMA Smartphones | KDZ | LG Flash Tool |
| Infineon | KDZ | LG Flash Tool |
| LG G2, G3, G4, G5 | KDZ | LG Flash Tool |

Not sure which tool to use? If your device was released before 2017, use LG Flash Tool with a KDZ file. If your device is from 2017 or later, use
LGUP Tool with a TOT file. Still unsure? Check our
troubleshooting page for model-specific guidance.
Troubleshooting Tips
If you experience problems running LG Flash Tool, the following fixes resolve the most common issues. For a full troubleshooting reference, visit our dedicated troubleshooting guide.
- If the tool fails to launch, install the Visual C++ runtime library from Microsoft and try again.
- If the tool reports that the phone is disconnected, disconnect from USB 3.0 and reconnect to a USB 2.0 port.
- If the application does not perform correctly, verify that the downloaded LG Flash Tool version is compatible with your device model.
- Enable USB debugging in Developer Options before booting into download mode.
- Ensure the KDZ file you downloaded matches your device's exact build number and region code.
- For LGUP users: install
LGUP_8994_DLL_Ver_0_0_3_23 first, then install LGUP_Install_Ver_1_14_3 to avoid tool misbehavior.
- If LGUP shows "Unknown Device", remove and reinsert the battery (where applicable) rather than using the power button.
- Select "Normal Flash" to replace firmware without losing data, or "CSE Flash" to wipe and restore only boot files.
